International Women's Media Foundation Names Jane B. Ransom Executive Director
Washington, DC -- The International Women’s Media Foundation announced today that Jane B. Ransom has been appointed executive director, effective March 20.
Ransom brings a background as a leader in non-profit organizations and an advocate for women to the IWMF. Most recently, she was vice president of strategic initiatives of the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, an organization that champions economic, political and social equality for women. Ransom held this position while living in Bologna, Italy. Prior to that, she was president and CEO of WFMN, leading the organization during a time of major renewal and growth.
“We are excited about the skills and talents Jane will bring to the IWMF,” said IWMF Co-Chair Larry Olmstead. “She has impressive nonprofit and leadership credentials, and her experience is just the right match for the IWMF.”
“Jane’s commitment to helping women reach their full potential, her visionary leadership skills and her commitment to turn vision into action make her the perfect person to lead the IWMF at this time,” said IWMF Co-Chair Eleanor Clift.
In addition to leadership positions at WFMN, Ransom has held executive and consulting positions with organizations such as Women and Philanthropy, Central Pennsylvania Legal Services and Woodside On the Move in Queens, New York. Her professional accomplishments include developing visionary strategic plans, directing research, education and advocacy initiatives, evaluating international internship programs and co-coordinating a $15 million fundraising campaign. Among other achievements, she established a national internship program for undergraduate women of color and initiated homeless prevention programs.
The recipient of a Minnesota Women in Business Changemaker Award in 2004, Ransom has served on the board of directors for Hope International and The Fundraising Project and was communications chair for the Council of United Way of York County, Pennsylvania, among other community involvements.
Ransom holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Bernard M. Baruch College of City University of New York and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Kent State University.
The International Women’s Media Foundation was launched in 1990 with a mission to strengthen the role of women in the news media worldwide. The IWMF network includes more than 1,500 women in the media in more than 130 countries.
