Washington, D.C. – The International Women’s Media Foundation today announced that Alexandra C. Trower, executive vice president, global communications of The Esteé Lauder Companies Inc.; Phil Bronstein, editor-at-large for Hearst Newspapers, and Christine Bronstein, founder of A Band of Wives, a social networking Internet site, have been named co-chairs of the IWMF’s 20th  Anniversary Steering Committee.

As co-chairs of the 20th Anniversary Steering Committee, Trower and the Bronsteins will serve as “ambassadors” for the IWMF with the goal of broadening the organization’s reach by organizing events across the country to showcase the IWMF’s work to a larger audience and increasing the IWMF’s international network to include more supporters.

“We are thrilled that Alex, Phil and Christine will continue their longtime support of the IWMF by helping to bring more attention to our work during our 20th Anniversary Year,” said IWMF co-chair Barbara Cochran.

“The IWMF owes so much to Alex, Phil and Christine,” said co-chair Campbell Brown of CNN. “They have been among our most dedicated supporters, and we are so grateful that they have stepped up their involvement to increase our visibility and support during our 20th Anniversary.”

Alexandra C. Trower became executive vice president, global communications of The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. in 2008. She has more than 20 years’ experience in global communications. Previously, she was senior vice president, media relations, for Bank of America, and prior to that, was a managing director at JPMorgan Chase. She has been a supporter of the International Women’s Media Foundation for more than 10 years, in particular the IWMF’s Courage in Journalism Awards, the only international awards program designed exclusively to honor the courage of women who report the news under dangerous and difficult circumstances.  She lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.

Phil Bronstein is editor-at-large at Hearst Newspapers. A distinguished journalist and editor, he began his career at KQED-TV in San Francisco and later moved to the San Francisco Examiner. He has received many awards for his coverage of the Philippines and was a 1986 Pulitzer Prize finalist for his reporting in that country. He went on to cover Southeast Asia, El Salvador, Peru and the Middle East. Bronstein was named executive editor of the Examiner in 1991, having previously served as managing editor for news. He was named executive vice president and executive editor of the San Francisco Chronicle in March 2003. He was named to his current position in 2008. Bronstein also serves on the board of directors at the Center for Investigative Reporting. A longtime supporter of the IWMF, he has sponsored IWMF initiatives at the Chronicle and has presented awards to IWMF Courage in Journalism Award winners.

Christine Bronstein is the founder of A Band of Wives, www.abandofwives.com, an innovative social network and information site for women. Previously, Christine served for eight years as CEO of Axis Personal Trainers and Spa, which, at the time, was one of the few women-run, venture-backed health and fitness companies in the nation. She also served as president of the child-welfare foundation, Sunshine and Daydreams, for three years. She is a graduate of the Columbia University/University of California at Berkeley executive MBA program and a member of the international honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma.

Phil and Christine Bronstein live in the San Francisco Bay Area with their three children.
