About the IWMF

The proportion of women newsroom executives in the U.S. has hovered at a modest 29 percent since 2000. Women journalists around the world tell a similar story. One reason for the stagnation may be that women are abandoning the profession. To combat these trends, the IWMF sponsors global Leadership Institutes that give women the skills and the network they need to become successful newsroom leaders.

Presidential Election Series

With its Presidential Election Series, the IWMF takes a closer look at women journalists who play a high-profile role in reporting about the presidential elections, and thereby shape public opinion as the ultimate check in the "checks and balances" system, an integral component of the U.S. political system.

Women Behind the News

While women are still in the minority in newsrooms all over the world, there is no shortage of accomplished female journalists whose work is highly deserving of recognition. The IWMF turns the spotlight on the women 'behind the news'.
