The National Press Foundation will present a four-day seminar for journalists on "Retirement Issues in the 21st Century." Fellowships are available to journalists for the program, which will be held Sept. 16-19 in Washington, DC. Application deadline is August 10.  Visit the website for details and an application.

Journalists from outside the U.S. are invited to apply for the Nieman International Fellowships to study at Harvard University. Application deadline is December 15 for the academic year beginning in August 2008.   Visit Harvard's website for details.

The Council on Foreign Relations is accepting applications for its International Affairs Fellowship Program. The fellowships — for U.S. citizens from the academic, business, professional, government, religious and congregational communities — seek to bridge the gap between analysis and action in foreign policy by supporting a variety of policy studies and active experiences in policymaking. The Marseille-Provence-Alpes du Sud Press Society, in partnership with the Foundation for International Reporters, is now accepting applications for the International Award for Freedom of Speech. Entries must have been published or broadcast between September 1, 2006 and August 31, 2007. Application deadline is September 15, 2007.  Visit the RSF website for details.

Applications are now being accepteed for the Simon Cumbers Media Challenge Fund, which aims to promote quality media coverage of global development issues. Media organizations in developing countries can apply for the grant in partnership with Ireland-based organizations. Deadline is Oct. 1.  Visit the website for details.

Journalism students worldwide may apply for the Scripps Howard Semester in Washington Internship Program. The program, administered by the International Center for Journalists, involves writing news and features for the Scripps Howard news service. Deadline is Oct. 1.  Visit ICFJ's website for details.

Human Rights Watch will award four fellowships in international human
rights to recent graduates of law schools or graduate programs in journalism, international relations, area studies or other relevant disciplines. Application deadline is Oct. 5.  Visit Human Rights Watch's website for details.

The Metcalf Institute for Marine & Environmental Reporting is accepting applications for Diversity Fellowships in Environmental Reporting. Eligible journalists must have at least one year of journalism experience, U.S. citizenship and a demonstrated interest in improving their environmental and science reporting skills. Journalists are eligible for the National Endowment for Democracy's Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellowship. The program is intended to help participants learn strategies for strengthening democracy abroad. Deadline is Nov. 1.  Visit the NED’s website for details.

Oak Institute Calls for Applications for Human Rights Fellowship
The Oak Institute at Colby College is seeking nominations for the 2008 Oak Human Rights Fellowship. The institute seeks a human rights practitioner working as a journalist outside of the United States for residence at Colby in the fall of 2008.  Visit Colby’s Web site for details.

The Kaiser Family Foundation is launching a new program for reporting on global health issues. Ten mini-fellowships will be awarded to print, radio, television and online journalists - including freelancers - to research and report on global health issues. Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and the Spencer Foundation are offering new fellowships in education reporting. Fellows will spend an academic year in New York to study at Columbia University. The fellowship is open to journalists, educators and education policy researchers. The Phillips Foundation is accepting applications for its 2008 Journalism Fellowship Program. Print and online journalists with less than ten years of professional experience are invited to apply. Applicants propose a one-year writing project focusing on journalism supportive of American culture and a free society. The Global Health Council is now accepting nominations for the Excellence in Media Award for Global Health, which is given each year to a journalist who has captured the essence of a major issue in global health and conveyed it to a broad audience. Undergraduate and graduate journalism students from the United States are invited to apply for a summer internship program in Berlin through the German Academic Exchange Service.
