Alana Barton is a program manager for the IWMF. She directs the Courage in Journalism Awards portfolio, which includes coordination of Courage research, communications and advocacy efforts. Previously, she managed the Reporting on Women and Agriculture: Africa project in Mali, Uganda and Zambia.
Prior to joining the IWMF, Barton lived in France and studied at the Sorbonne. In 2008, she was a research assistant for a historical book in England. She has also worked as a freelance journalist in Alaska.
Barton holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and journalism from the University of Alaska. She speaks French.
